My brother wants to watch Avatar (in 2D; just a note for all the freaks out there) at my new/semi-old desktop computer and my new monitor (sys004). Awesome quality, but too hard for ubuntu 10.04.
It’s interrupting the fluent image sometimes. One CPU is processing with 90%, other ones are relaxed. Furthermore I had to turn off the screensaver (ubuntu does not detect the video-playing mode). Because my brother is laughing at ubuntu (and it’s high processor load), I agreed to try Windows XP. According to his experience there are no troubles with Windows at his (slower) laptop. Damn ubuntu. Closing VLC and starting it in Windows.
Actually there are less freezing images, but again it’s not a fluent image. One CPU is processing with 90%, but the other ones are more relaxed. Whenever there has to be some text, the image is totally interrupted.
The next time, I will increase the process priority at ubuntu too. I think I will get the same results: a non-fluent image with 4 CPUs with Hyperthreading (22 GHz) and very well supported graphics card. However, ubuntu just crashed again. Lovely operating systems…
